I feel like I was just posting about Black Friday shopping and now Christmas is less than two weeks away; wow. Where has the time gone? It is easy to get caught up in the commercialization of the season, but I urge you to remember the real reason for the season. Do you know the legend of the candy cane? Well, I’m going to tell you, and if you already know take this as a friendly reminder. The Legend of the Candy Cane was one of my favorite Christmas stories growing up, and still is today.
You see, it all started when a mysterious candy maker wanted to invent a Christmas Candy so people would not forget that Jesus is the reason. This candy maker wanted something peppermint since it was used for purification and sacrifice in the Old Testament. That is when the candy cane emerged. The hard candy reminds us that Christ is the rock of ages. When turned upside down, it resembles a “J” for Jesus and turned right side up, it resembles a shepherd’s staff. The red stripes remind us of the blood shed for our sake and the white reminds us of Christ’s purity.

Every time you see a candy cane this Christmas season, I urge you to remember the real reason for the season: Jesus.
P.S. If you are still wondering what to get that child on your Christmas list, I highly recommend this book.
